Why We Exist

Why Mollis Ars BJJ Exists

For seven years, Dhavid Antunez worked in the wind energy industry, first as a blade repair technician and later in management. The constant travel had one upside. He trained wherever work took him, learning from academies and coaches all over the country.

One place changed everything. At Dynamic Jiu Jitsu in Wichita Falls, Texas, under Professors Jeremias Mendez and Roger Perez, he found what a great academy actually feels like. When he realized there was no Carlos Machado academy near his hometown of New Caney, Texas, he built one himself. On May 27, 2024, Mollis Ars BJJ opened under the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association (CMJJ).

The goal was never just another gym. It was a place where people grow, belong, and become better.

Dhavid Antunez

Founder & Head Instructor. 2nd-degree brown belt under Carlos Machado.

Dhavid leads every part of Mollis Ars BJJ, from the preschool mat to adult class. He came up through the Carlos Machado lineage, a style known for control, technique, and respect that keeps training safe and effective for every age.

He also runs the academy day to day, which means the person setting the standard for how you are coached is the same person on the mat fixing your grip.

Jeremy Reid

Instructor. 1st-degree black belt under Robert Drysdale.

Jeremy first stepped on the mats in 2005 under Ricardo Almeida in New Jersey and earned his black belt under Robert Drysdale. Alongside Jiu-Jitsu he built a career in high-level sports performance, earning a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Baylor University.

That work took him to Las Vegas, where he trained and ran strength and conditioning camps for world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA athletes, including former UFC fighter Vitor Belfort, Gilbert Burns, and Robert Drysdale. He is a father of two and a devoted husband, and he coaches with one goal: helping the people around him reach their greatest potential.

Progress Comes From Consistency, Not Perfection

Dhavid walked onto the mats knowing nothing, got submitted countless times, and fought back from setbacks. That is the same road every new student travels, and it shapes how we coach.

Consistency Over Perfection

You will not get every technique the first hundred times, and that is normal. We coach you to keep showing up, because that is where real progress lives.

Coaching for Your Level

A first day beginner and a competitor can share the same mat, each getting feedback that fits exactly where they are.

Technique in the Right Order

A structured curriculum builds skills step by step, so every class connects to the one before it and the one after.

Control Before Contact

Students learn to look after their partners every round. That is why Jiu-Jitsu stays one of the safest martial arts to start.

Why the Machado Lineage Matters to You

The Carlos Machado lineage is one of the most respected names in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and it is more than a name on the wall. It sets the technical standard we teach to, the respect we expect on the mat, and the patient, long term approach that helps a nervous beginner and a seasoned competitor both keep improving. Dhavid came up in this lineage under Professors Jeremias Mendez and Roger Perez, and he carries that same standard into every class you take.

Good to Know

Before Your First Class

Do I need any experience to start?

No. Most people who walk in have never trained. Your first week is free and your first classes are built for complete beginners, so you learn at your own pace.

What should I wear to my first class?

Just wear comfortable clothes you can move in, like a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. You do not need to buy a gi for your first week. We take care of the rest.

Can parents watch class?

Yes. Parents are welcome to watch from the side the entire time. Many first time students feel more comfortable knowing a parent is right there.

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for beginners and kids?

Yes. Classes are built around control before contact. Students train with partners at their own level and are supervised the whole time, which is why Jiu-Jitsu has one of the lowest injury rates in martial arts.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?

No. You get in shape by training, not before it. Come as you are and go at your own pace. Everyone starts somewhere.
